Hispanic Books and Librarians<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

As a librarian, I always start with the books. There are many beautiful picture books on Hispanic culture, as well as fiction and nonfiction for older readers. Most of us are familiar with the Caldecott and Newbery Awards, but have you heard of the Pura Belpr\u00e9 Award, named after the first Latina librarian at the New York Public Library?<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Pura Belpr\u00e9 Award<\/strong>, established in 1996, is presented annually to a Latino\/Latina writer and illustrator whose work best portrays, affirms, and celebrates the Latino cultural experience in an outstanding work of literature for children and youth.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
